New Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S., were announced today by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog. High Point Medical Center was one of 823 hospitals to receive an “A”, ranking among the safest hospitals in the United States.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that strives to promote safety, quality and affordability of health care in the U.S. by promoting transparency. The Hospital Safety Score uses a wide range of evidence-based measures related to patient safety to calculate a numerical score for more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals. The numerical safety score is then converted into a letter grade (A, B, C, D or F) designed to give the public free and unbiased information they can use to protect themselves and their families. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
